As residents of Culver City panic over lost programs that they believe are the most important programs that the city has. It seems apparent to me that an irrational approach to the loss of the Culver City Redevelopment Agency may bring a greater problem for local government than our local elected representatives to Sacramento have brought us this year.  Our governmental leaders need to take a good hard look at the total effect of this $4.5 million annual loss of revenue.

Before I go into the specific issues, let me say, that I have been referring to our two state elected officials as anything but representatives, that is because they do not listen to our locally elected officials, your Culver City Chamber, and our professional municipal staff lead by City Manager John Nachbar. They only listen to the needs of the Sacramento money machine.

The concern for the fluff of city government such as music, poetry and plays, in my opinion fall much lower on the needs of our city than public safety, parks and recreation, streets and sewers.  The Culver City Unified School District will lose $1.6 million annually from the Agency, and now after taking so much from local agencies Sacramento is threatening further cuts in public education if we do not pass a tax increase in the fall.

Our council cannot be so short sighted as to let the fluff of our city override the core purpose of city government.  Our Redevelopment Agency brought us many cultural things that made Culver City a standout in the area.  Now times have changed and we cannot live in a world of wants, we need to live of a world of needs.

That's what I think...
