The 37th Annual Culver City Mayor’s Luncheon hit high notes with the earliest sell out in our history and ranked as the third highest in attendance.

Mayor Clarke decided to put some change in the program by starting a new tradition of awarding the first annual Culver City Citizen of the Year Award to longtime community supporter John Riordan of John Riordan Plumbing.

John Riordan who turns 90 years old on September 4, 2017 has been in business well over 40 years at the same location.  John and his plumbing company have always contributed to local charities and school issues that benefit the entire community without seeking special recognition.  John’s involvement goes back to his re-plumbing of El Marino Language Arts School when it first opened in the 1980’s, his annual support of the Culver City Education Foundation, membership in the Culver City Kiwanis Club and Culver City Chamber of Commerce.

John always has a smile on his face as well as a cake for a deserving person or business he is visiting.

The traditional State of the City was replaced with a Conversation between Jim B. Clarke and Kathy Paspalis, senior member of the Culver City Board of Education that was moderated by Culver Chamber Chair of the Board Paul Goldstein.
